Few are those who have been to Patagonia and have left without visiting the Frey Refuge. A classic of the region, located at the foot of a lagoon, it attracts climbers and hikers from all over the world for its mystique and the mountain spirit that surrounds it.
The tour begins with a transfer from the downtown hotel to the base of Cerro Catedral, one of the most important ski centers in South America. From there, the trail begins to the Van Titter stream, passing through a burned forest that is in the process of recovery. Upon reaching the stream gorge, the trail increases its slope, and the sound of the water accompanies us during the final stretch to the Piedritas refuge (no services available). After a brief rest, we continue with the last hour of ascent, until we reach the Frey Refuge, located in a glacial cirque, on the shores of the Toncek Lagoon. Surrounded by imposing granite spires, it is a dream destination for climbers from all over the world.
After enjoying the view and resting in this unique environment, we start the return trip along the same trail to the base of Cerro Catedral, where transportation awaits to take us back to the lodge, completing an unforgettable trekking experience in one of the most impressive landscapes of Patagonia.
